Playing with the camera

Last Saturday Michael and I went out to Lake Nagawicka and took some pictures just after sunrise. I wanted to go out so I could capture the water and play with the various settings aperture, f-stop, etc. But, was I in for a real treat. It turns out that it was a slightly foggy morning with clear skies above the horizon. I had a lot of opportunity here to capture the light as well.

I think a few of them came out quite well, given my lack of experience. I figure I fall just beyond a point and click shooter, but not quite even an amateur. In a year or two, I hope to be able to look at some of my pictures and know exactly what to do to make them totally rock. Not that they’re bad now, I just think I could do better.

Check out more photos.

Michael also took his camera out and really loves to take macros shots. His pictures typically come out much more clear and crisp than mine. It’s kind of fun to both be learning and evolving. We definitely each have our own distinct styles.

I prefer a more serene dreamlike photograph, a piece of art. I figure that since I can’t really draw and don’t paint, I want to make art with my photography. He has a much more direct style.
